First Cities Go Dark For Earth Hour
The iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge in Sydney, Austrailia went dark Saturday night. Sydney has now become the world’s first major city to turn off its lights for this year’s Earth Hour, a global campaign to raise awareness about climate change.
Major Buildings and Lanmarks are turning off their lights for this years Earth Hour. Even google has changed their homepage to black instead of while, though the color has no effect on climate change.
In New Zealand, Auckland’s Langham Hotel went from electric lights to candles in efforts to conserve electricity,
WWF Thailand said the lights out campaign in Bangkok saved 73.34 megawatts of electricity, which would have produced 45.8 tons of carbon dioxide.
This is a worldwide event. People are requested to turn off their lights for one hour from 8 pm to 9 pm local time to raise awareness of earth change.
Just imaging all the stars you would see of all the city lights were out for one hour. That would definitely make people more aware that there is more to life that what is just in front of them.
